People search for how to reset Liebherr fridge freezer units as if there were one reset button. There usually is not. A reset on a Liebherr means one of four different things: cycling the power, silencing an alarm, leaving a special mode such as demonstration mode or SuperFrost, or resetting a filter indicator. Each does something different, and none of them repairs a failed part. The exact key sequence differs by model, so use your owner’s manual for the buttons and use this guide to decide which reset you actually need.
What does a reset on a Liebherr fridge or freezer actually do?
A reset changes what the electronics are showing or doing; it does not change the state of the cooling system. If the cabinet is warm because a door seal is torn, a sensor has failed or the sealed system has a fault, no reset will cool it for long. If the cabinet is warm because a mode is stuck on or the display has locked up, a reset can fix it. That is why the first step is always to look at the display and at the symptom, not to start pressing keys.
Write down what the display shows before you touch anything. Our Liebherr fridge display symbols guide and the refrigerator error code list explain what the symbols and codes mean, and that note will also save a technician time if you end up calling.
How do you power-cycle a Liebherr safely?
A power cycle is the closest thing to a universal reset, and it is safe when done carefully. Keep the door closed as much as you can, because every opening lets cold air out.
- Check the display and note any code or symbol.
- Switch the unit off using its own on/off function if your model has one, or turn off its breaker at the panel while standing on a dry floor. Do not pull the plug if the outlet or cord is wet.
- Leave it off for a few minutes, which is the same advice our dashes-on-the-display page gives. Do not judge the result too soon after switching it back on.
- Switch it back on and give it time to initialize before you check the temperature.
- Confirm later that the compartment is actually cooling, not just that the display looks normal.
The exact steps differ by model, and some models start a short delay before the compressor runs again. Check the owner’s manual for your model rather than assuming. If the unit has been warm after a long outage, see warm after a power cut, and for food safety see freezer food during a power cut.

How do you reset a Liebherr that is stuck in demo mode or showing dashes?
Demonstration or showroom mode keeps the display and lights working but disables real cooling, so a unit that lights up and never gets cold may simply be in demo mode rather than faulty. It often appears on a new installation or after a reset. Our Liebherr demo mode page says the exit sequence is in the owner guide for your model and that a power cycle is the next step if the mode will not exit on the first try.
A display showing only dashes is covered on a separate page, Liebherr refrigerator dashes on the display. The advice there is to perform the demo mode exit sequence, power the unit off for a few minutes, restore it and confirm it is cooling afterward. If the dashes stay and the unit is not in demo mode, book service. We do not list a key combination here because it is model specific and we have no verified source for it.
How do you silence an alarm, and why does it come back?
Alarms are warnings, not faults. A door alarm means the door has been open too long, and a temperature alarm means the compartment has warmed above its safe range. Muting the beep is done with the alarm key described in your manual. The alarm returns when the cause is still there.
For a door alarm that keeps sounding with the door shut, check for something holding the door ajar, a torn or dirty seal and a cabinet that is not level, as covered in Liebherr door alarm. For a freezer alarm that will not clear, see freezer alarm sounding, which says to confirm the door is closed and the gasket is clean, allow time to recover after restocking, then mute it per the owner guide.
Which resets are model-specific, and which are not a reset at all?
SuperFrost and SuperCool are boost modes that normally switch themselves off. If SuperFrost will not cancel, switch it off from the controls and let the freezer return to its set temperature; the SuperFrost stuck on page adds a power cycle if it will not switch off and service if it keeps re-engaging.
On models with an ice and water system, the filter prompt is cleared by the filter indicator reset after you fit a new cartridge; the steps are in our water filter replacement guide. The ice maker itself has an on/off setting that is easy to switch off by accident, which is covered in Liebherr ice maker problems.
These are not fixed by any reset: F-series sensor codes, a warm cabinet with a correct setting, repeated frost, or a compressor that runs and never cools. Those need a diagnosis. Never open the back panel, the electronics or the sealed system yourself.
When should you stop resetting and call someone?
Stop after one clean power cycle if the symptom returns. Repeated resets can hide a pattern that a technician needs to see. Call if the unit does not recover after a power cycle, if a code returns within hours, if there is any water near electrical parts or if you smell burning. Switch off the breaker from a dry floor in those cases. Meanwhile, keep the door closed: a closed refrigerator keeps food safe for about 4 hours without power, a full freezer for about 48 hours (about 24 hours if half full), and food above 40°F (4°C) should not be kept.
