The Liebherr lineup
Liebherr is a German manufacturer focused on one thing — refrigeration and wine storage — and the result is a catalogue organised into clear model families. Once you can read a Liebherr model number, you can identify the technology inside, the configuration, and the parts a repair will need. Across this site you will find six families: fresh-food refrigerators and combi fridge-freezers, standalone freezers, the three distinct wine ranges, and the fully integrated Monolith columns. You can browse them all from the appliances overview or jump straight into the model library.
Refrigerators: CBN, SBS and MCB
Liebherr refrigerators carry letter prefixes that describe the configuration. CBN denotes a combi fridge-freezer with NoFrost (for example the CBNbsd 7661), CN / CNsfd covers other combi NoFrost models, SBS / SBN marks side-by-side units (such as the SBNsdh 5264), and MCB identifies integrated, panel-ready combi models (for example MCB 3652). The lowercase letters that follow the prefix encode finish and feature options, while the four-digit number relates to height and capacity. The signature technologies are BioFresh and EasyFresh humidity drawers, DuoCooling independent circuits, PowerCooling, NoFrost, and SmartDevice Wi-Fi. Service starts at refrigerator repair.
Freezers: G, GN and SGN
Standalone Liebherr freezers — upright, chest, and integrated — use the G and GN prefixes, with SGN on integrated NoFrost columns. The NoFrost lines defrost automatically and pair with PowerCooling and SuperFrost rapid-freeze for fast pull-down of fresh loads, while manual-defrost lines remain in service across older units. Reading the prefix tells a technician whether your freezer is frost-free or manual-defrost, which determines whether a defrost (dF/AFR) fault is even possible. Find help at freezer repair.
Wine storage: GrandCru, Vinothek and Vinidor
Liebherr’s wine appliances split into three philosophies, and the series name tells you which. GrandCru cabinets are single-temperature units built for long-term aging, with carbon filtration and premium shelving for serious collections. Vinothek is the economical storage line. Vinidor is the multi-temperature line — two or three independently controlled zones so reds and whites sit at their own serving temperatures at once. All share vibration-damped compressors, UV-protected glass, charcoal filters, and humidity control. Because the three serve different jobs, this site separates them into aging cabinets and serving fridges, with the umbrella wine refrigeration repair covering all of them.
Monolith: MRB, SRB and MF/MT columns
The Monolith range is Liebherr’s premium, fully integrated built-in column refrigeration — not wine storage, but standalone 24″, 30″, and 36″ refrigerator and freezer columns that disappear behind custom cabinetry panels. MRB denotes a Monolith refrigerator with BioFresh (for example MRB 3600), SRB covers other built-in refrigerator columns (such as SRB 5290), and MF / MT mark the freezer columns that pair with them. These carry BioFresh Plus, SmartDeviceBox connectivity with an interior camera, InfinityLight LED side walls, SoftSystem soft-close, SuperQuiet operation, and PowerCooling. Service is at Monolith repair.
The lowercase feature letters
What confuses most owners is the block of lowercase letters between the prefix and the number — the part of a Liebherr model that looks like a typo but actually encodes the build. They describe finish and feature options: letters can flag a stainless or panel-ready front, the presence of an ice maker or water dispenser, a specific door style, or BioFresh versus a plain crisper. Two refrigerators with the same CBN prefix and the same four-digit number can still take different gaskets, handles, or drawer assemblies because of these letters, which is exactly why a technician needs the complete string rather than just “a CBN 7661.” Capturing every character off the rating plate is what lets the right part arrive on the first visit.
Decoding and servicing your model
A Liebherr model number combines a family prefix, a string of lowercase feature letters, and a height/capacity number — reading all three identifies the exact build. The rating plate is usually on the interior side wall, near the top, or behind a drawer; record the full string before you book. If your appliance is showing a fault, start with the fault-code and alarm library, then identify the matching family above. Our certified technicians service every Liebherr family regardless of age, using genuine parts matched to the build, and specifications can be confirmed on the manufacturer’s site at liebherr.com. When you have your model in hand, schedule a repair — diagnostic visits start from $129, with the final cost depending on parts and configuration.
